2011 Haro website updates!

Maybe you've already noticed while snooping around the place here, but we've just finished adding video features for each category and model in the 2011 Haro line. Check out the cameo appearances from Eric Porter, Greg Watts and Phil Sunbaum... it's well worth doing a bit of digging around.

Most bicycle companies don't generally advertise on network TV due to the high costs associated with the production of a commercial as well as the price of the TV spots themselves. We're no exception...too rich for our blood...but just in case a suitcase full of money shows up on our doorstep sometime soon, we have a commercial ready to roll!

Adrian Syben, a friend of Greg Watts, has a video production company called Umlaut Productions. He'd like to start producing commercials, so he decided to make Greg the subject of his first project.

"I had been wanting to do this commercial for a while," said Adrian. "After reading the Decline interview with Greg (whom I knew from growing up in the same area), I knew that he would be the perfect rider to bring a certain degree of professionalism to this video that I would not have been able to get from anyone else."

Adrian is a graduate of the UCSC Film and Digital Media program.

So check out Adrian's first commercial project we've dubbed "Greg Watts Daydreaming". If you see it on your local TV station, you'll know that suitcase of cash showed up...

Greg Watts wins AT's Showdown!

Greg is finishing the season strong with a win this weekend at AT's showdown at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

He did way too much stuff to write in this update, but on of the crazier things he did was ride half the course underhanded, ending with an underhanded flipwhip, which I'm pretty sure has never been done before and is absolutely insane. He took the win by just destroying the course and was pretty much untouchable. Greg says this was one of the sickest contests of the year, both for the level of riding and how good the course was. Oh and to finish things off he hopped on his 110 mini dirtbike and flipped the big trick jump on it, just to put the nail in the coffin!!

Unfortunately Phil had crank/bb troubles during qualifying and couldn't get his bike fixed in time to make it to the finals. His buddy David who is now riding a Haro was riding really strong, this was his first mtb contest ever and he represented well, flipping and whipping his way through the course with some big flairs at the last quarterpipe.

Team Haro competing at AT's Showdown at the SF Bike Expo this weekend!

Hey all you NorCal folks! Heading to the San Francisco Bike Expo this weekend? Be sure to check out AT's Showdown...Greg Watts, Phil Sundbaum, and Brian Miller will all be competing in this cool dirt jump event.

Here's a little Showdown preview video that shows the course coming together and a bunch of the riders guinea pigging their lines. Watts shows off his Metal Mulisha style with a back flip on the mini bike. Woot!

Mike Steidley to ride down a mountain of cash!

Have you ever wanted to ride your bike down a mountain made of cash? Haro trials rider Mike Steidley will get to do just that...sort of. Mike was chosen to star in a TV commercial where he will be "riding" down a mountain of money. The cash will actually be animated in, so unfortuantely Mike wasn't able to reach down and grab a wad of it as he was riding along. Here's what Mike had to say about his experience:

"Last week I had the chance to work with a large Boston based marketing company and get involved with a TV commercial shoot. The marketing firm is putting a variety of commercials for the CT Lottery. One of my contacts from the MTV project got me in touch with the group that was facilitating the project.

The campaign features 15 commercials and each one highlights a different New England celebrity. I was filming with in a giant green-screen room and the group is going to completely animate me into a giant ski mountain of cash in CG effects. I spent a week riding down a green ramp a few hundred times and they will pin the 20-foot sections into a downhill run with jumps, berms, skids, etc. as I navigate down the mountain. The best part was that since I got to “play” myself, I’m in my full kit and on my own bike, thus all my sponsor logos and full product placement will be seen throughout the commercial.

The commercial will air on a bunch of stations out here starting on November 22nd. I’ll get a full impression summary and most importantly a QuickTime video for you to see the finished project."

Porter's Jackson, WY trip report

Well a couple weeks ago I went on a trip to Jackson WY to ride the famous Teton Pass trails before the snow closed them for the year. Turns out we picked the right weekend because the very next week a big storm came through and snowed them in for the winter! These trails are really unique because they were built illegally on forest service land, and then they were legalized and brought under control of the forest service. Now the same people are building and maintaining the trails, but they get paid by the gov't to do it! Amazing! Anyway the trip was amazing, Jackson is a really fun town with a great local crew, the trails are out of hand fun, and the trails all end at a sweet bar so you can grab tacos and a beer after riding! Enjoy the video, and get out to Jackson if you can, it's worth it!

Haro and Norco bikes stolen from Norco storage facility

Our good friends and Haro distributors up at Norco in Canada just had a bunch of high-end Norco bikes and Haro BMX bikes stolen over the weekend from their storage facility. Be on the lookout!

Here's more information we grabbed from their website:

This past weekend Norco had their off-site storage facility broken into. The thieves in question went straight for the goods, stealing a selection of high-end Norco Downhill, Freeride and Haro BMX bicycles.

If there is one thing, for better or worse, that will get a group of cyclists riled up, it is bike theft. It is something that affects us all, but when our communities unite it is something that we can put a stop to.

We are putting the call out to all riders in the Vancouver BC area to help us keep an eye out for the Norco and Haro bicycles below. Whether it is online, on the trail, from the back of a van or elsewhere we are asking that you please contact your local Police immediately if you come across anyone trying to sell these bicycles, frames or parts kits from them.

The bikes that were stolen are:

• 10 x 2011 Norco Team Dh

• 2 x 2011 Norco 250

• 1 x 2011 Norco Shore 2.0

• 2 x 2011 Haro 400.2 BMX

• 2 x 2011 Haro 400.3 BMX

These bikes should be easy to spot!! Of the bikes stolen, the 2011 Norco Team Dh’s had just arrived at Norco and only one dealer and a couple of Norco staff have possession of these bicycles in Western Canada. This makes the Dh’s unique and easy to spot as they have custom decals and a full Saint group, so if you notice anyone posting either complete bikes or parts for sale or riding the new bikes that are not associated with Norco again please let the Police know ASAP.

The West Coast riding scene is made up of some of the most dedicated cyclists around and we appreciate your help in trying to stop the low down scum and scourge of the cycling scene – bicycle thieves. With your help we are hoping to nail these thieves and we thank you for helping us stop the “fun-wreckers.”

Mike Steidley wins 2010 US National Trials Championships

Haro Trials, Freerider, and Stunt Rider Mike Steidley is the overall winner of the 2010 North American Trials Series, crowning him the number one trials rider in North America, bringing the count to nine career titles.

Steidley took home the gold medal in his most recent round of competition in Arkansas at Devil's Den State Park and locked in the overall series Championship Title. The 2010 North American Trials Series (NATS) events also took place in Colorado, New York, Tennessee, Minnesota, British Columbia, Seattle, West Virginia, Missouri, and Toronto.

This is the ninth National title for in his career since he had his first professional win at Mount Snow back in 1998 where he won the 1998 NORBA Junior National Champion title. Since moving to the pro class, Steidley has obtained 16 regional championships and holds NORBA National Championship titles in both 2007 and 2008. Steidley also holds the 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2009 North American Trials Championship titles.

Phil Sundbaum is BACK!

Phil busted his foot way back in April...needless to say, he's been jonesin' to get back on the bike. He's finally getting all healed up so here's a little video of him shredding some of his local ride spots.

Greg Watts talks about the Red Bull Rampage

Videographer Justin Olsen caught up with Greg Watts at the Red Bull Rampage to get his take on his first experience competing there, what went into choosing his line, and what bike he was on.

"I crashed in my first run, so I took my second run as a safety run and just got down to the bottom", said Watts. "I wanted to get some points for the FMB world tour...I ended up 7th in that".

Next stop for Watts will be at AT's Jam up at the San Francisco Bike Expo on November 6th at Cow Palace.

Porter in Alaska

Well I'm home again from another amazing 2 wheeled adventure, this time to Alaska! I (Eric Porter) went there with Kelly McGarry and Chris Van Dine, and we spent 2 weeks camping and riding. We also had Harookz shooting stills, Don Hampton on video, Alec Cattarin on POV, and Carlos Crowl (DHA) as our amazing guide. It was an amazing experience to say the least, we had a blast! The trip started out strong, as soon as we left the airport, we looked out the window of the truck to see the northern lights (aurora borealis) dancing around in the sky, it was pretty unbelievable, just this quickly moving and changing mass of green light all the way across the sky.

The second night was quite the opposite, we returned from a late dinner at the Salmon Bake restaurant and during dinner the coulds had opened up into a torrential downpour. The original plan was that we were all camping in a 1950s army wall tent. However when we got back from dinner we all found our sleeping bags pads and pillows sitting in a small lake which used to be known as the bottom of the tent. That was a miserable night, we all split up between sleeping in the rental van, the guide's pickup truck backseat, and his toy hauler trailer where all the bikes were.

Looking back it was a good way to toughen us up for the rest of our time in AK, dealing with pretty much all the seasons each day. It was beautiful up there with amazing views all around, and we watched the fall colors coming out while we were there, it was full on fall by the time we left. We also saw some great wildlife; bald eagles, moose, and fox just to name a few. We didn't see a bear the whole time, but they were around, we saw tracks everywhere, and didn't go anywhere without our bear bell and bear spray. You can see my backcountry toilet in one of the photos!!

Another unique experience was that Jason, the owner of the Salmon Bake bar and restaurant invited us to ride across the bar one night to put on a show for his customers, I thought this was a pretty fitting thing to do with my bike considering my homebrew beer graphics! So we all took turns riding around up there and threw some tricks off the end, pretty sweet! It was an extremely tiring trip with all of the time we spent hiking ridgelines with our bikes, working on trails, and of course riding every day. We ended up eating a ton of Clif Bar products throughout the day to keep us going, since we usually missed lunch because we were out on the hill.

On the last day we ended up lucking out with the weather and getting an amazing sunset, which enabled us to finish shooting at this really cool zone with some awesome berms and a couple big jumps. As the light was almost gone I finally stomped my big trick for the trip that I had been saving till the end because of the danger factor, and it couldn't have been more golden light when I did it! As soon as it was done I sprinted down the hill to the car, immediately took apart and packed my bike, and drove to the airport arriving 1 hour before my flight, just in time! All in all it was one of my favorite trips I've ever been on, and I'm sure I'll be back next year!

If you are a regular reader of the blog here you may remember me talking about an amazing trip I went on in February to Malaga, Spain with a couple guys from the Gravity team. If not, this video will fill you in! In any case, it was a really great trip, and despite the rain we got almost every day and the flooding, we still managed to fit in lots of good riding. Crankworx Slopestyle Finals

Well another Crankworx is in the bag now, with our man Greg Watts making the super finals again! Unfortunately they ran things super fast after the first 2 final runs, so Greg didn't have time to get a new tire on his bike after a major blowout sustained by landing on a sharp rock off the 20' x 30' massive judges tower drop in his second run. Because of this he ended up in 7th place overall, which isn't too bad all things considered, but he was definitely gunning for the win to defend his title from last year. He rode great though anyway, here's a few photos of him riding and on the jumbotron in front of the tens of thousands of screaming fans in the village. I also threw in a couple photos from his best trick contest win.

Martin Ogden wins UK National Master's 4X Championships

Haro-sponsored 4x/DH pro Martin Ogden was crowned the UK National Champion in Master's 4X this past weekend at Southwest Extreme aboard his Haro Thread. He also won all 6 races in the national series with the National Championships being the series finale.

Saint Deep Summer Photo Contest

I just got done with the Deep Summer photo contest up here in Whistler, it was amazing! Basically 6 top level mtb photographers are invited, they can have 5 athletes each and have 3 days to shoot a 3-5 minute slide show. I was a rider with Steve Lloyd, the only non BC guy in the contest, and had never even been to Whistler before! So we got together a crew and worked our butts off for 3 days shooting, it was incredibly hard work, sun up to sun down in the rain, hiking back up over and over again trying to get the shot! While the rain and cold weather made it hard to work in, it did make for amazing shots with fog in the trees and misty mountain shots. We got a ton of amazing to work with, so when it came time to edit the slideshow it was hard to narrow down to the best of the best. In the end I think we came up with a great show, the crowd was really into it! While we didn't win the contest, we did get runner up for best single photo, although it didn't win because they thought that what I was doing was too dangerous... I guess that's just how I roll! I can't post the show here because the majority of the shots will be published in magazines, but you will get to see them that way at least! All in all we had an amazing time, and produced several months worth of photos within 3 days! Here is a photo from the awards and presentation, it was a sold out venue with over 1,100 people there!

Brian Miller injured

We just leared that Haro pro slopestyle rider Brian Miller took a nasty spill during yesterday's Crankworx CO practice session. Witnesses said he pummelled into the ground head first. Sadly, he has sustained a broken neck and back...the good news is his spinal cord is OK. He will be released from the hospital later today.

We'll keep you posted as we learn more. In the meantime, please send Brian some healing vibes!

UK's John Lee takes on Mega Avalanche on his Porter

52 weeks ago, UK resident John Lee decided he wanted to train for the famed Mega Avalanche ultra-distance downhill race in France. With the support of Haro and several other sponsors, John not only attained his goal but finished a respectable 28th out of about 280 racers in his class. Sadly, he was not able to compete on the Haro Porter he rode in qualifying due to multiple mechanical problems sustained during the qualifier that included a blown fork, broken rim, bent seat post, and a blown rear brake. Luckily, he was able to rent a bike at the last minute to ride for the finals.

We know Brian Miller can shred a MTB like there's no tomorrow...he can also shred on a BMX bike too! He proved just how much he could shred by taking 2nd place the at Gatorade Free Flow Tour contest...which earned him a spot to compete at the Dew Tour in Salt Lake City!

The Haro MTB team just got back from a great weekend at the Teva Mountain Games! This event is one of the most fun and also relaxed events of the year. It is in the middle of a huge festival in Vail, Colorado with thousands of spectators. There's rock climbing, kayaking, fly fishing, Trail Running, XC MTB, dog jumping, basically everything. The slopestyle course is always really fun and not scary big, just chill. Kyle Ebbett is the course designer and does a great job.

In qualifying we all rode great, but the field was super tight and only 12 out of 45 riders made it to the finals, I just missed them myself, but Brian Miller and Greg Watts made it in no problem with killer runs. Miller threw down a sweet run, a little on the conservative side because he is nursing a badly rolled ankle, but still good enough for 7th!!! Greg's first run was a safety run to get something in the bag, which he nailed. His second run was perfect, including flip whips, 3 whips, 360 drops, tailwhips, until he landed his flip whip on the last jump and his tire blew out sending him to the ground, ending what would have been a top 3 run. He was pretty bummed, but what can you do.

Anyway it was a lot of fun, and you can check out the contest on NBC later this summer when it airs. In the mean time here's some photos and a video from VitalMTB.

Yep, Phil broke his foot while he was out riding last week so he'll be on the sidelines for a couple of months. Luckily, he won't need surgery but he will be hobbling around in a sweet walking cast/boot thing that he wasted no time customizing...

Since Phil was out of commission and couldn't ride this past weekend, he decided to host a little Haro jam at the Fenwick skatepark up in Washington state. Phil grilled up hot dogs and served up soda for all 60 riders that showed up for the jam.

Haro’s going on Tour!

The weather in California is getting warmer…time for a ROAD TRIP! The Haro rig is hitting the road this weekend and heading up north for the week-long Tour of California. That’s right, we’re going on tour!

We’ll have a booth set up each day at the MBT Lifestyle Festival which will be located near the finish line at each stage finish. Festival hours are 11am to 4:30pm each day. Stage finish cities and dates go as follows:

• Stage 1, May 16: Sacramento
• Stage 2, May 17: Santa Rosa
• Stage 3, May 18: Santa Cruz
• Stage 4, May 19: Modesto
• Stage 5, May 20: Bakersfield
• Stage 6, May 21: Big Bear Lake
• Stage 7, May 22: Los Angeles
• Stage 8, May 23: Thousand Oaks

Haro pro trials rider Mike Steidley will be performing his signature bike stunt show twice daily in our booth. The first show will be at 12:30pm and the second show is scheduled for 2:30pm (this time might float a little bit based on when the peleton is due to arrive at the finish line).

We just got home from the Upsidedown and Underground comp in Jamie Goldman's backyard in Bend, OR. The team killed it there riding nonstop all weekend, his yard is so much fun!! More than anything this event was about fun, there was a best trick jam, a pumptrack race, and a jump comp on the big line as well. In the best trick jam I was working on some 360 tailwhips, Brian Miller was doing 360 tuck no handers and some other good stuff, and I can't even remember what Watts was doing, he's wild! On the big line I crashed just before finals started while tailwhipping the biggest jump, and bruised the crap out of my tailbone! It was a fun 12 hour drive home.... Anyway Miller put together a good run with some good variety, and Watts brought back the heelclicker on the start drop, which is pretty damn gnarly! There's no riding shots of me, cause I was riding, but I did take a minute to shoot these photos of the Brian and Greg! We all had a good time, got some great photos for the Decline article and web, and rode lots, thanks Jamie!

Phil Sundbaum: Stranded in Europe!

Phil Sundbaum flew across the pond to compete in the Rocket Air event in Switzerland and now he can't get home due to the volcano in Iceland. There are FAR worse places to be stranded in than Switzerland!

Phil checked in and sent us some pictures this morning....

"My trip has not gone to plan, but we are making the best out of it. I flew over to Switzerland for the Rocket Air event in the town of Thun. It was a fun comp for sure and had a couple good size drops and big jumps.

We have been a bit of a story in Thun. Since this was a first-time event here and it was a bit of a success, it turned into a big story about us all being stuck here. It's funny cause lots of locals recognize us now. Here is a shot of the news article that you can't read since it's in German.

My flight was to depart on Monday, but somewhere in Iceland a volcano blew up and left me stranded. I am still sitting in Europe now waiting for a flight and I hear that they just started flying today, so hopefully I get home by the weekend.

Even though we didn't plan for this we are still making the best of it. I am trapped with Mike Montgomery, the Samson brothers, and Blake and Raymond from the UK. We have pretty much been touring around Switzerland with our friend we just met at the event and staying at his place for the most part. Here are a few pics of my view where I "live" now and a couple of the course we got to ride".

This year's Sea Otter Classic goes down in history as having the best weather ever! Sunny skies and warm temps made for some good riding and a great event.

Mike Steidley rode his butt off by putting on 2 to 3 shows per day for huge crowds!

Greg Watts, Eric Porter, and Haro BMX Brand Manager Allan Cooke competed in the Dual Stunt competition. All three made the finals and put on a good show for the crowd on Sunday.

Haro pro slopestyle riders riders Greg Watts, Phil Sundbaum, Eric Porter, and Brian Miller will all be there to compete in the Sea Otter Dual Stunt competition. Dual Stunt is a unique competition that combines the speed and excitement of dual slalom racing with the thrill and skill of slopestyle and trials riding. Course inspection and practice is on Friday from 8am to 11am with qualifying starting immediately afterwards. Sunday starts with another round of practice from 8am to 11am with the finals beginning at 11am. Come out and make some noise for Team Haro!

Haro/Kenda trials pro Mike Steidley will be making the long trip out from the East Coast to put on his famous trials shows for everyone at Sea Otter. Come by the Haro booth to see why Mike Steidley has earned eight U.S. National Championships titles…his stunts defy gravity! Mike’s show schedule goes as follows:

Friday, April 16th: 11:30am and 2pm

Porter in Spain

Just got back from a Gravity team trip to Malaga Spain, to stay with Ruben Alcantera and film and shoot photos. It was pretty amazing, I love it over there. The riding, food, people, scenery, everything is awesome.We ended up getting a lot of good shots, but not as many as we had hoped. Several places we really wanted to ride got completely flooded out, this is the wettest winter in recorded history I think for that area, it was supposed to be sunny and 75 degrees the whole time we were there!!! Anyway here's a bunch of photos to show you some of the spots we rode, and some scenery as well, enjoy! Also, check out Decline magazine in the next few months for the article to be coming out, and when the video is done from the trip I'll post it here as well!

Martin Ogden & Haro Porter bike check

UK's Martin Ogden aka "Oggy" has been on the bike racing scene for a number of years now as a pro rider and he has battled his way into becoming one of the darkest horses on any race track. A huge all-round talented racer and a very genuine down to earth bloke - whether its a 4X race or Time trial event, this guy excels at it.

Ray's MTB Park "Odd Couple" Contest

Haro was well represented at the "Odd Couple" contest at Ray's MTB Park held on January 31st...Greg Watts, Phil Sundbaum, and Brian Miller all made the trip to this awesome indoor riding playground.

The Odd Couple contest works a little different from all the other contests out there...each MTB rider teams up with a BMX rider and they shoot a video. Then the video is put up to a "people's choice" where the crowd votes with their applause.

Watts teamed up with Haro's Steve Woodward, Sundbaum was paired up with Haro's Ronnie Napolitano, and Brian Miller chose to ride with Eastern's Adam Banton. After it was all said and done, Brian Miller's team was the top-placing Haro team with a fine 4th place finish. Sadly, Greg and Phil didn't make the wood, but they did make some pretty cool videos.

52 Weeks

Yes, there are 52 weeks in a year. "52 Weeks" is also the name of a blog on PinkBike.com where John Lee is keeping an online diary of his year-long training program that will prepare him to compete in the world's longest downhill race called Mega Avalanche. Held in Alpe D'Huez, France, this course is about 20 miles long with 8,500 feet of descent. This is considered one of the world's most demanding downhill races due to the overall course length, terrain, and sheer number of competitors. John will be competing in the Mega Avalanche on a Haro Xeon. Check out the video John made of he and his Xeon in action the first day he rode the bike:

Here's a little bit about John:

"After my back breaking crash 10 years ago, I decided to get myself back on
a bike and compete in the worlds longest Downhill race - The Mega Avalanche
2010. Since July 2009 I have been training my hardest to prepare for
the 33km DH race. I recently won the Hardtail Downhill Race at racers
Guild and finished 50th (out of 350 riders) in The Kona Mash
Up Technical Race in December. My 2010 race season will comprimise of
Downhill, BMX and 4X races.

I am married to my very patient and understanding wife - Julia - and we
live in Derbyshire with our son Elijah, who is 19mths old. To pay the bills
I work as the UK assistant editor at Pinkbike and I also a manage a newly
established youth project.

I love my Haro bikes and I currently ride and race a Haro
Xeon, Haro Steel Reserve 8 and a Haro X4 BMX. I am hopefully receiving
my Haro Porter and Haro X7 very soon for my 2010 race season".

Best Haro V4 ever!

When Adrian Bogdan in Stephens City, VA was shopping for a new bike, some of the full suspension bikes on the market weren't all that appealing to to him. He really liked the geometry of his 2003 Haro V4 hardtail and the way that bike rode, but was ready to upgrade to something with nicer parts on it and would be a little lighter weight.

Adrian decided to hang on to his V4 and upgrade all of the parts on it. Boy oh boy, did he ever upgrade! He started out by getting the frame powdercoated white and chose to use red as his accent color. He added sweet bits to his frame like a DT Swiss Carbon fork, SRAM X0 shifters and rear derailleur, Thomson stem and post, Ritchey WCS carbon bars, a red ano Cane Creek headset, and white rims laced to red ano Novatec hubs (and red spokes!).

We're convinced that Adrian's V4 is the most upgraded V4 on the planet. If someone else out there has one that has more upgrades on it than this one, let us know!

Brian Miller takes 3rd place at AT's Showdown!

The first annual AT's Showdown happened on the 21st at the San Fransisco Bike Expo! The event was a blast, and was stacked with the biggest names in the sport including the McCaul's, Watts, Goldman, Montgomery, Bass, Lawrenuk, Gullevich, Chubey, Lunn and many more.

Unfortunately, it seemed to rain at the worst times but thanks to the course builders Greg Watts and Andrew Taylor, the Showdown went down!

The course was composed of a large drop to three big jumps, the first being 35ft! The format of the contest was an hour jam qualifier with 16 riders going to the finals. With so many great riders it wasn't long till people started throwing down including Haro's newest rider Greg Watts, who was flipping and tricking the drop/jumps all morning! After the dust settled, I ended up qualifying 3rd and then placing 3rd in the finals. So stoked, my fist podium was in my home town!

Thanks again to AT and Watts for putting on SF's first MTB DJ event.

Congrats to Eric Porter and his wife Megan! Baby Milo was born on Monday morning weighing in at 7 lbs, 1 oz. Both mom and baby are healthy and doing just fine. Porter says, "He's so rad, little happy baby!". I think we see a future slopestyle star here...won't be long before this little guy is throwing down tailwhips at the local trails!

Haro pro slopestyle rider Eric Porter played a big role in the development of this bike. He directed several aspects of the creation of his signature bike from the overall frame geometry down to the "Smurfy Blue" frame paint.

Just about every part on this bike is the same exact part that Porter uses on his own personal bike he trains and competes on. Fox made a custom 36 Float RC2 fork just for Porter to use on his bike during the prototype testing phase that had the travel reduced to 100mm. We had Fox make up a batch of these forks for us to use on the production bikes to round out the final spec.

Paolo Tempestini from Italy took the time share some photos of his Mary SS bike he rode in the "6 Hours of Singlespeed" in Rome, Italy. His friends autographed his frame before the race. Paolo and his Mary SS looked so good, Mountain Bike World magazine of Italy used a image of the duo in their latest issue.

Paolo competed in two 6 Hours of Singlespeed events in Italy. In Cremona, he rode to a 6th place finish. In Rome, he rode to an impressive 2nd place finish aboard his Mary SS. "The Mary SS gave me the opportunity to savor the quality of steel and most importantly, made me discover the great benefits of the 29er," Paolo said. "The advantages in smoothness and riding quality allow you to take on your opponents meter after meter, curve after curve!"

Boasting a bag of tricks few other riders can match, Greg has made numerous podium appearances at premier slopestyle and freeride events all over the world. He has also produced several video segments in high-profile films such as New World Disorder and Barred for Life.

Haro's Mike Steidley Wins 2009 US National Trials Championship!

Kenda/Haro Factory Trials, Freeride and Stunt Rider Mike Steidley is the overall winner of the 2009 North American Trials Series crowning him the number one rider in North America. Steidley took the gold medal home at final round of the Nationals held at Spirit Mountain Ski Resort in Duluth, MN. A strong placement edged Steidley into the first place position for the series champion.

This is the Eight National Tile for Steidley in his career since he had his first professional win at Mount Snow back in 1998 where he won the 1998 NORBA Junior National Champion Title. Since moving to the pro class Steidley has obtained 16 regional Championships and holds Norba National Titles Championships in both 2007 and 2008. Furthermore, Steidley also holds the 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008 North American Trials Championship Titles. The 2009 North American Trials Series (NATS) events took place in California, New York, Tennessee, British Columbia, and Minnesota.

Check out this little guy! This is Ryan McGarrity from Orange County, CA aboard his Haro Z16 BMX bike. Ryan regulary rides his Z16 on cross-country rides with his dad Jim on some of Orange County's most challenging trails like Santiago, Aliso Woods, Top of the World, and even some of the Telonics trails. Dad's looking to upgrade him to a Flightline 20 real soon...We're sure little Ryan will enjoy having some gears on his bike so he can keep up with his dad.

Keep up the good work, Ryan! Riding some of the trails you do isn't easy on a BMX bike with 16" wheels and a coaster brake!

Back from Vegas and wasted no time jumping back into my demo program. Right after Interbike I grabbed my trailer and headed down to Sandy Hook, NJ to take part in the Bike New York Twin Lights Ride. This event is put on by the same bunch that organizes the massive 5 Boros ride in NYC and it takes place right on the water in the top part of the Jersey shore. The post ride festival set the stage for a very relaxed afternoon of shows and a few snapshots are below.

My friend Derek and I just took the day to go on a full pipe mission to Wyoming, it was super fun!! It was really cold, probably a high temperature of 34 or so, and the fullpipe was like a wind tunnel, but it was still worth it! Anyway check out the video!

Wilson's Haro Tattoo

Here it is, in all of it's glory...the Wilson tattoo video. If you remember from the last post, Wilson was challenged by Phil to get a Haro tattoo in order to join him on a roadtrip that included Interbike, Woodward West, and San Diego. Wilson, never being one to back down from a challenge (or a free tattoo), naturally obliged.

There is a bunch of riding that we shot in and around Seattle with Phil and Wilson after the tattoo montage, so stay tuned!

Wilson Gets Branded

What would you do to join Phil Sundbaum on a roadtrip to Interbike? Would you tattoo the Haro logo on your body on a dare from Phil? Wilson did!

That's right, Wilson is the proud new owner of a Haro tattoo. We wanted to come up with something funny for him to do in order to earn his way to Interbike, and this is what we came up with---and what he agreed to do! If you remember, he tazered himself earlier in the year for a trip to Woodward, so we had to step it up for Vegas.

We also got some filming done over the past week as well, stay tuned for an edit of everything that went down.

For the first time this summer I've actually been home for a couple weeks straight! So I've been busy riding all the local trails and dirt jumps and having so much fun! Yesterday was closing day at Deer Valley for lift accessed lift riding, so I made sure to be there for some runs with my friends, we were even lucky enough to get a quick shot of rain halfway through the day to put down the dust.

Another thing we've been doing is sessioning our new wooden lip we built. We just bring it around to a couple different spots and blast it! Unfortunately I don't have any action shots, but here's a couple setup shots so you can see what we're working with.

I've also been spending a bit of time at Ogio getting ready for the contest at Paul Basagoitia's house the weekend before interbike, it should be pretty fun. I'll put an update up about it right afterwards!

Introducing "The Porter"...

Based on all the inquiries we're getting about this bike, we're re-posting the sneak peek. Can't stress how important it will be to talk to your local shop if you want one of these...just a small handful will be produced!

Now for the moment you have all been waiting for...details on the slopestyle bike! "The Porter" is about as close to an exact replica to the complete bike that Eric Porter rides. We most all the same parts he uses on his own bike. Yes, it's expensive! But like good wine and fast cars, most of the finer things in life are expensive.

This bike rocks. The pics don't do it justice at all!

I'll caution ya'll that we ordered VERY limited quantities of these. If you want one, talk to your local dealer. These are part of our 2010 line, so we'll be getting them into stock in the Fall.

Porter and I are up in Whistler right now for Crankworx and it is pretty much the best thing ever! We got our hands on an HD POV camera and did some runs down the mountain. Stay tuned for a clip (with regular HD footage mixed in) from our session! Here are a few screenshots from my POV to tide you over. I mostly followed Porter, but for these shots, I turned the camera sideways and we jumped bar-to-bar down a section of "Crank It Up".

Garrett Rose wins 2009 Jr Expert Mountain Cross National Championship!

Congrats to Haro's Garrett Rose! He took a convincing win aboard his Haro Shift R5 at the US National MTB Championships held at Sol Vista, CO July 17-19. Garrett's win earns him the title of US National Champion in the Junior Expert Mountain Cross class and the coveted Stars-n-Stripes National Championship jersey.

"My National Championship race was extremely fun and almost felt like slow motion at times," says Garrett. "It feels awesome to be one of the fastest Jr Expert men in the USA. I look forward to racing more and someday soon becoming a Pro".

At just 15 years old, Garrett is quickly moving up the ranks in the mountain cross classes, leaving his competition in the dust.

He's got one heck of a future ahead of him!

MBA Shoot

Just finished up a shoot with Mountain Bike Action this weekend for an article on the riding around Park City. I was the local pro to show them some freeride and dirt jump spots, Doug Dalton handled the XC stuff. I also went along on an xc shoot on my new sonix, I do ride a decent amount of xc, suprising to some people!! Anyway the weather was perfect and we got a ton of great shots, it was super fun. Always fun shooting with John Ker as well!!! Oh yeah and when we were shooting the road gap (which I put in a picture of my X7 and the take off) we found out that there was a huge yellowjacket nest under the start of the bridge, we got super locky and didn't get stung, but we had to let them settle down between each run!! After we were done shooting everything, Carol from the Mountain Trails Foundation was nice enough to treat all of us to dinner at Shabu, one of the best restaurants in Park City, as a thankyou for our hard work. Thanks to Jimmy Mac as well for getting this in the mag!

Claymore Challenge

Just got back from the Claymore Challenge slopestyle at Highland Bike park, in NH. That place is so much fun. They have one of the most fun slopestyle courses to start, and then they also have tons of really fun dh trails ranging from rooty and rocky to smooth and fast with berms and jumps. On top of that they have a huge dirt jump park and pumptrack. Anyway the contest was a lot of fun, and tons of good riding went down. In my qualifying run I flipped the step down at the beginning of the course, opposite 270'd the big hip, tailwhipped the next jump, did a big downside footplant on the wallride, and then flipped the freebird jump at the bottom of the course. Unfortunately I missed qualifying by 1 spot, but I was still pumped on how I rode. Don't have too many photos from here cause I dropped my camera in the river while fly fishing last week, but here's some iphone photos!

Park City Dirt Jump Camps

The past few days I've been helping out with coaching at the Park City dirt jump camps at the city jump park. It's been super fun helping to get kids into dirt jumping at such a young age, and watching them progress so fast! It's also pretty cool that this is a city parks program, the dirt jump park, the camps, everything, all run by Park City. You don't see that in too many places! Here's a couple photos of Alec, one of our campers this session, he's riding a Haro 16" bike, he loves it, and obviously knows how to ride it too!
